Yelena Gluzman thinks about social cognition through performance structures. In 2013, with Esther Neff, she co-organized "Theorems, Proofs, Rebuttals and Propositions: A Conference of Theoretical Theater." Since 1999 she has made many site-specific "Science Project" performances, where site could be situation (e.g. an audition, a theft), genre (pornography, film), or institution (academia, publishing).
She is an editor at Ugly Duckling Presse, and founding editor of Emergency Index (an annual compendium of performance documents, 2011-present) and Emergency Playscripts (a series of primary performance texts highlighting issues of notation, 2009-present). She holds a BA in Neuroscience, and MFA in Theater Directing, and is currently working toward a PhD in Communication, Science Studies, and Interdisciplinary Cognitive Science at UCSD.
