I grew up Mexico and owe my education to the Mexican public school system. After studying Hispanic literature at the University of Mexico, I moved to NYC where I worked, married, and later completed my Ph.D. in literature at Columbia University. Since 1990 I have taught in the Department of Literature at UCSD.
